Giovanni Paolo Cima – Sonata a2. Violino e Violone (G minor)

Cima’s Concerti Ecclesiastici, published in 1610 includes six instrumental works which are among the earliest written for specific instruments. The first two of these are scored for violin and violone, and cornett and trombone respectively. However, both are often performed by any treble instrument and continuo alone, as the melodic bass parts rarely deviate from the organ.

Compatible with the following editions:

Amadeus (BP680)

London Pro Musica (LPM CS7)

Performance notes:

  • The accompaniment part follows the stated tempo throughout with a slight retardation before the final note; there are no other tempo deviations.
  • Notes have been added to the part to help the performer maintain tempo; these are limited to subdivisions of long notes and occasional added bass notes.
