This edition presents four examples of prescribed embellishment in seventeenth-century secular French vocal music. The embellished second verses (seconde couplet) of these airs by Jean-Baptiste Bousset are presented underneath the first verses, giving the performer more direct comparison between plain melody and ornamented variation with the aim of instructing performers in such an important aspect of performance of this repertoire.
